    Adhoc report for End users

Hello everyone, I was wondering if any body is using an adhoc reprot tool for sql. We are trying to get our end user here to try to create some of  thier adhoc reports. This tool would need to be at the end users level and not too technical. If anyone know of a program out there please reply. Have a good day

Actually SSRS has an ad hoc tool called Report Builder that is pretty good.  I use it for my customer base.  It has security filters that you can put on your report data model to limit the data that is returned so that you can isolate 1 users data from the next.  Although the filter can be a little bit buggy.

Re: Adhoc report for End users

We use a few different products.  The one that I like the best is to create a number of different reporting services reports with multiple parameters with the column sort option for each column turned on.  While this is not true ad-hoc report we have found it goes a long way in getting users the data they want, once they have defined the different data elements they want returned.  To make this reporting process a little cleaner you can build a custom ASP.NET app that calls the different reports based on the data set the user selects and passes the parameters to the underlying reports.  Once again this the user the ability to select different pre-defined data sets and filter the data using different parameter options.  Just an idea.
