January 2009 - Posts

  • Presentation from RSSUG Meeting Thursday, January 15th, 2009, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

    Recap:

I think last night’s presentation went pretty well, we had a lot of participation from the group and I know if nothing else I learned a few things.   If anyone wants any of the slide deck or the T-SQL scripts for parts of the presentation we did not get to they can be download from the links below.   The portion of the demonstration for the GUI setup of database mirroring that required some t-sql are downloadable below as well.   I hope everyone who turned out had a good time and learn something.  Thank you all for turning out and a special thank for our sponsor Richmond Code Camp 2009!

    What: SQL 2005 Database Mirroring

    Abstract:

SQL Server 2005 introduces a number of new features, one of which is Database Mirroring. This is the 2nd out of the box technology from Microsoft for SQL Server that allows native configuration of a Hot Standby Server. It has a completely different configuration than its cousin SQL Clustering and opens up a whole host of secondary possibilities for the resourceful DBA. Come by and take a look as we kick the tires on this new but seldom used solution.
